Even at times when the economy has gone real bad, people still continue to go to day spas. On a weekly basis, at least one new day spa is established across the country. This is a testament to the viability of starting a spa business. But how come people keep on spending on day spa services when they are scrimping on other expenses like dining out, shopping, and even watching at the movies?

The answer most probably lies in the fact that we cannot simply duplicate the services that a beauty day spa can provide. Unlike eating out where we can simply cook our meals at home, it is not easy for you to get a truly relaxing massage in your own house. A day at the spa is truly something that you will have to go out to experience. Even if your spouse can give a good massage, it is still nothing compared to an expert massage therapist’s services.

Now that you know it is a good time to start a new day spa, how do you go about it? For one thing, you can choose to get a franchise from a national day spa company. One great benefit from this approach is you can use an already popular spa name which equals to instant recall from your customers. In short, it is less harder to market an already popular brand name than to promote a newly created one. The usual requirements apply before you can be approved for a franchise: you must have a great location, some companies require that you have a background in business or marketing, a franchise fee, and the dedication to run your franchise for a long time.

But if you are one of the idealistic entrepreneurs who want to have their own brands and expand it, then go ahead and put up your own spa. Take extra consideration in naming your spa. Aside from it being unique, it must have a good recall from your customers so that it will be the first name that will come to their minds whenever they feel like going to a day spa.

Plan the range of the services you will be offering. Are you going to be a holistic spa and target most stress related concerns? Or are you just going to focus on a specific line of service, let’s say you will offer purely massages? In most cases, by having a limited number of day spa services it will be easier for your customers to make their decisions and come back for the same treatments or services.

Perhaps the hardest part when it comes to putting up a new day spa is the hiring of the staff. You can go cheaper by hiring inexperienced personnel and have them trained instead. Or if you want to have less worries, hire well-trained staff who can go straight to servicing the customers even on day one. But no matter what approach you take, you must push for quality all of the time. A standardized technique on how to do each spa treatment can add an air of professionalism to your business.

There is so much more to be understood when it comes to starting a day spa business, however as long as you have the drive to make it happen, the necessary capital to run the business at least for a year without much profit, and the knowledge on how a day spa operates, then you are on your way to being a success story among the various day spas across the country.

To stay young and beautiful, that is the goal of many women and also including some men. But until a medical fountain of youth has been discovered, people can just rely on facial treatments for the meantime.

To stay young and beautiful, that is the goal of many women and also including some men. But until a medical fountain of youth has been discovered, people can just rely on facial treatments for the meantime.

Blackheads, whiteheads, acne, poor complexion, and blemishes – these are just some of the reasons why people go to day spas to get a facial beauty treatment. And let us not mistake it as being vain. It has become a necessity to have our face professionally cleaned. With all the pollution that we go through each day, getting a facial has become more important these days.

Here is a short guide so you can familiarize yourself with what facial treatments can do for you.

Skin Analysis

A doctor or a therapist will determine your skin type, whether it is oily, dry or just normal, and then recommend the appropriate facial treatment. Sometimes just through the naked eye, the specialist can easily determine the best cleaning for your skin. If she wants to be more thorough, a magnifying lamp may be used.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. This helps to smoothen your skin as the rougher surface is then removed. The specialist can use a scrub, either a mechanical or a chemical type, and then use steam vapor to help speed up the process and make the skin softer.

Facial Mask

Depending on the kind of facial, sometimes a facial mask is used. There are a variety of masks and each with different purposes. Some are for cleaning the pores, others for treating acne, and there are those for skin whitening.

Extraction

While it may sound painful, the degree of pain actually varies per person but in general it is very tolerable to even painless. What extraction does is the sebum is removed from the skin or from the pores. Sebum is secreted by the skin pores and when it dries up, it can clog the pores resulting to acne, whiteheads, blackheads, and other skin blemishes.

Extraction cannot be performed without first preparing the skin through cleansing and exfoliation otherwise the pores might get damaged resulting to even worse skin problems.

Facial Massage

After your face has been thoroughly cleaned, the therapist will perform light facial massages. This will help to rejuvenate your skin as well as make you feel more relaxed.

Home Care Advice

After you are done with your facial treatment, the doctor or the therapist will then talk to you about how you can further take care of your face. It is normal that they would recommend some of their products like toner, astringent, facial cleansers, and facial masks; but you are not obligated to purchase. If you want there are similar products that you can buy from beauty stores.

The classic question of “how many times should I get a facial?” is not easily answered. It actually depends on each person, especially with her own skin condition. Some people do it once a month, others at least once every quarter. The best thing that you can do is to visit a dermatologist and ask for her recommendation based on your skin type and condition.

With the way we work today, it is no wonder that stress management is always a big issue among the workforce. And more people are getting some day spa services to relieve any stress from their bodies, making them relaxed and ready to face another day's work.

With the way we work today, it is no wonder that stress management is always a big issue among the workforce. And more people are getting some day spa services to relieve any stress from their bodies, making them relaxed and ready to face another day’s work.

With the sprouting of so many types of spas across the country, day spas still remain to be the most popular form. For one, it is the more convenient place to go when you want a complete day spa package which includes a massage, a facial, and a body treatment. And it is called as such because you just go there during the day and not to spend a night unlike such spas as resort spas and destination spas. And besides it is usually cheaper to go to a day spa.

Day spas also come in different sizes. There is the day spa just within your neighborhood where there are only two or three massage therapists. Of course the expected clientele here is not that big, hence the size of the staff. Also there are the big spas occupying thousands of square feet of space where the best spa equipment can be found. The staff there usually go over a dozen members, sometimes with each one specializing in just one treatment or service.

So what are the types of day spa services that you can get from any spa? Here is a quick guide to get you familiarized with these services.

Massage Therapy

A day spa is not a day spa without a set of relaxing massages. A massage therapy is a kind of treatment where a therapist will use his hands and other parts of his body to work on your muscle tissues, effectively releasing any tension or stress. He makes use of various gliding, kneading and other hand movements to achieve his goals.

with a massage, you are usually nude with only a towel covering you. This is usually the case with a session of Swedish massage, said to be the most popular type of massage. On the other hand, a Thai massage will have you wearing a robe or any lose clothing as the nature of this massage requires the therapist to stretch and move your body.

Facial

A facial is a day spa treatment where your face or skin is cleansed, exfoliated, and also massaged to make you feel relaxed as well as to hydrate your skin. This helps to keep your skin looking young and take away any trace of stress from your face.

There are a few things that are done during a facial treatment. One is that your face is cleansed to remove any dirt and excess oil. Second is called exfoliation where the dead skin cells are removed using any form of exfoliant and usually while steam vapor is directed to your face. Third is the extraction of blackheads and whiteheads. And finally a facial massage.

Body Treatment

Think of a body treatment as a facial for the rest of your body. It exfoliates your skin, leaving it feeling smooth and soft. People often think of a body scrub when they hear the words body treatment, and they are right to do so. Body scrubs are among the most popular treatments in any line up of day spa services.

During a body scrub, the therapist rubs a mixture of salt scrub and oil all over your body. This removes any dirt and dead skin cells. A treatment usually lasts for an hour and is best to be followed up with a relaxing massage.

A visit in any day spa can sometimes result into a confusion as there are some facilities that have a wide range of services. To the uninitiated, it can be quite a hindrance into fully understanding the benefits of each of the body massages we have today. That is unless the massage therapist on the site can effectively explain the differences of these massages.

Just as there are a variety of massages, so does the reasons why people need to avail of one. The more popular reason is to assist in stress management. With the work and the lifestyle that we have today, it is no wonder day spas are being put up in almost every corner of the town or city. People need to get away from their office work or even from their household responsibilities and indulge in a few hours of stay at a spa.

Since no two massages are the same, let us discuss the five most popular types of body massages to help you decide which one is more suitable for your needs.

1. Swedish Massage

This is sometimes referred to as the beginner’s massage and the one that we are most familiar with. It is the most sought after massage when a simple relaxation is your target and not to have any specific part of your body needs to be treated.

The Swedish massages involve such hand movements from the therapist like kneading, long strokes, and circular movements. The goal is to improve the circulation of the blood and to release the toxins from the body.

2. Shiatsu Massage

Another of the more popular types of body massages, the Shiatsu massage originated from Japan and it involves finger pressure concentrating on just one part of the body at a time.

The massage therapist puts on the finger pressure for a few seconds until he is satisfied that the knot or muscle tension have already disappeared. If you are worrying that there you will feel sore after the therapy, in most cases there is no such soreness and you will feel just pure relaxation.

3. Deep Tissue Massage

If you have a stiff neck or a really tight shoulder, then a deep tissue massage is perfect for you. By the name itself, the therapist will be putting great pressure on your muscles, effectively releasing any tension and tight knots. The movement is typically slower to better emphasize the treatment on the concerned area of your body.

4. Sports Massage

Despite the name, sports massages are not meant only for professional athletes. As long as you are doing strenuous physical activity on a regular basis, you can definitely benefit from this type of body massage.

It is typical just like a Swedish massage but with faster movements or strokes as well as some stretching maneuvers. This will help to loosen any tight muscles as a result of continuous physical activities.

5. Back Massage

A great percentage of the population is suffering from one form of back pain and the most popular treatment is usually a back massage. While it may not permanently remove the pain, it can help alleviate it and make the person feel more relaxed and able to function well.

Back massages usually last just about 30 to 40 minutes and can be performed while the client is sitting on a specially made massage chair.

Are you always feeling tired? Does it seem like you have lost the energy to do other things aside from work? Are you always feeling irritable, moody or even depressed? These are just some of the symptoms, both physical and emotional, that say you are under extreme stress. It can be because you are working too hard or you are juggling a lot of worries in your mind right now. But whatever the cause may be, you have to beat stress the moment you feel it. Because it might lead to graver complications either to your health or your relationship with other people.

If you put your mind into it, it is actually an easy thing to beat stress especially when it is just starting to creep in. Below are 7 easy ways on how you can take control of your stress and take control of your life. Focus on just one of these suggestions at a time and see which will work best for you.

1. Get a massage.

There is a reason why there are many day spas in any given location in the country. And that is because of the demand for a quick getaway from our normal working lives. More people are finding the benefits of getting a massage on a weekly basis, or at least a couple of times a month.

Getting a massage will not cost you a lot and it is one of the most effective ways to handle your stress.

2. Take a break.

Sometimes beating stress can be as simple as just taking a break. And break can mean different things from other people. If you are an executive who is always on the go, carrying a smartphone and always checking on your emails and taking calls, disconnect yourself from your electronic life even if just for an hour. Enjoy the silence that it will bring to your life and after you had your break you will feel you can do more when you get back to work.

3. Exercise

It may not seem logical at first, but exercising can actually make you feel relaxed. It also helps keep you alert and your energy up throughout the rest of the day. A bonus to this is that when you have a healthier body, you can beat stress more effectively.

4. Talk to a friend.

Stress is often related to the amount of work that we do each day, and when we are that busy we seldom have time for our social life. It does not mean you should go out and party every night. Just spend a few minutes each day by calling a friend and just talk about anything. Not only will you get rid of stress, but you will also build better relationship with the people that matter in your life.

5. Pursue your passion.

Do you want to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro or any summit for that matter? Have you always wanted to learn how to be a chef? Each of us has his or her own passion and by aiming for it or even better, by achieving it we can feel fulfilled in life. And this really good feeling will definitely last for a long time.

6. Take a hobby.

A break from your usual routine can help keep stress at bay. Start learning how to play a musical instrument or paint on a canvas or start your own garden. You will also be taking up new skills along the way.

7. Volunteer for a good cause.

Sometimes the ultimate on how you can beat stress is by giving a helping hand to people who are in need. You can participate in home building program, cook for children in an orphanage or help distribute relief goods to disaster victims. There is nothing that can match the natural high and the peace of mind that this kind of activity will bring to your life.

In a world that is increasingly demanding, let us be a sanctuary for you to stop for a moment in time and be still.

Samsara is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning the ‘cycle of birth and rebirth’. The cycle of Samsara is one of evolving through learning and knowledge, where life is a journey of discovery. At Spa Samsara we have drawn inspiration from the eastern tradition of healing which incorporates tranquility, therapy and spirituality; where treatments are based on the fundamental principle of a ‘life force’ which flows through the body – Prana, Chi, Ki. A balance of body, mind, emotions, spirit and community is essential to achieving and maintaining a harmonious flow of this life force.

Spa Samsara is a boutique day spa and wellness centre and has been thoughtfully designed to be a serene space harmoniously balancing the elements of Vedic philosophy – Air, Water, Earth, Fire and Ether. We can also cater for dual treatments in a spacious room with a double Geisha spa bath, so that you can share your treatment with someone special; perfect for celebrating occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, Mother’s Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day.

Services

Aroma Stone
Balance your body mind and spirit with aroma-therapeutic oils and warm Volcanic stones which help infuse the plant essences into the skin and stimulate cutaneous blood circulation. This blissful technique focuses on harmonising the energy in the meridians and chakras of the body while reducing muscular aches through the use of the heated stones. The 90 minute massage includes the full body, scalp and an aromatic facial treatment.

Relaxation
Long flowing and kneading strokes ease general muscle aches and promotes circulation, relaxation and a sense of well being. An ideal introduction for those new to massage. You may choose your ideal pressure from light, medium or firm.

Remedial
Specialised techniques that focus on relieving chronic patterns of stress and tension in muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Pregnancy
A gentle massage focusing on the common areas of concern such as lower back, legs and feet this is ideal to reduce stress and discomfort.

Purely Polished
Feel renewed with an all over body exfoliation to deeply cleanse and help your skin’s natural cycle of regeneration. After an invigorating shower and application of moisturiser, your skin will feel incredibly soft and silky.

Back To Bliss
Ideal for blemishes and congestion, this treatment will purify and relax the back, neck and shoulders as we cleanse, exfoliate and apply a detoxifying clay back mask. After a relaxing scalp massage, hot towels, and massage of body lotion, you and your back will be in a state of pure bliss.

Well Wrapped
For our body wraps treatments we use freshly blended masks so that the ingredients are at their most potent. Choose from a 45 minute treatment with dry body brushing before the body mask, or the 75 minutes where you will receive a full body exfoliation which complements the mask. While you are comfortably wrapped enjoy an aromatic facial massage or relaxing head massage with nourishing serum.
